According to a report by Kyodo news agency, Over thousand beef cattle which ate feed contaminated with radioactive cesium are being shipped all over Japan from Fukushima and other regions thus adding worry after the world’s worst nuclear disaster after 25 years. The report arrived a day after Tokyo planned to suspend all the shipments of beef cattle from areas around Fukushima after it found that the beef cattle shipped nationwide was fed rice straw contaminated with high degree of radioactive cesium.

After the nuclear crisis, people of Japan are now worried about another issue. Fears that radioactive particles have contaminated food and milk supplies have escalated and at the same time Japanese consumers are now concerned about their food safety after having witnessed so many cases of contaminated vegetables, tea, milk, seafood and water. The reason for this contamination after the calamity is quiet obvious, it is the radiation leakage at tsunami-hit nuclear plant in Fukushima located 240 km or 150 miles north of Tokyo.

The accurate figure of number of cattle that ate straw containing radioactive cesium and are shipped from Fukushima and seven other areas to different parts of Japan is 1,235 to be precise says the report by Kyodo. This straw which the cattle were feed on was left exposed in rice paddies to radiations when Fukushima plant leaked radiation followed by earthquake and tsunami on March 11. Reports say this straw contained almost 500 times the radioactive cesium above the safe level. However government is still working and conducting tests to find out if the meat was itself contaminated.
According to the health experts, health implications of consumers who had cattle beef that were fed on contaminated straw are not immediately clear but will soon be determined. Tokyo Electric Power Co’s Fukushima plant is still leaking radiations even after four months of this disaster. After such disasters, people of Japan are still not safe owing to food contamination cases constantly being reported. Radiations on many food products including vegetables produced in Fukushima prefectures were found be much higher than legal standards. As such people are battling to find the safest way for their survival, be it exposure to radiations or consumption of food. However condition is being controlled much and consumers can take relief as government s taking measures to make people safe and ensure them health safety.
